THIS SULKY IS IN ORIGINAL GILT SURFACE AND IS IN EXCELLENT UNRESTORED CONDITION. IT WAS MADE BY A.L. JEWELL, WHO WORKED IN MASS. FROM: 1852-1867. IN JUNE OF 1867 HE HAD AN ACCIDENT AND DIED. HIS MOLDS WERE SOLD TO THE CUSHING & WHITE CO. JEWELL WAS ONE OF THE EARLIEST SO CALLED " FACTORY" WEATHERVANE MAKERS. HIS VANES HAVE AN UNIQUE STYLE, SHOWING MOVEMENT IN THEIR FORM. THE HORSE HAS A CAST HEAD, THE DRIVER IS ALL COPPER AND THE WHELLS ARE METAL. 36" LONG X 18" X 5". A SIMILAR EXAMPLE SOLD AT THE ALLAN DANIEL SALE, CHRISTIES, JANUARY, 2001. THE SULKYS MADE BY JEWELL ARE RARE. IT HAS A TABLE METAL MOUNT FOR DISPLAY.
