THIS CIGAR STORE PRINCESS IS UNUSUAL IN THE FACT THAT SHE IS IN THE WALKING POSITION. SHE STANDS 57" TALL AND DATES TO C.1860. SHE IS IN ORIGINAL CONDITION WITH 2 AGE SPLITS IN HER BACK. THE SURFACE IS EARLY AND COULD BE THE FIRST SURFACE. ATTRIBUTED TO THOMAS V.BROOKS, 1828-1895. IN 1840 BROOKS JOINED THE SHOP OF JOHN CROMWELL, 419 WATER ST. NYC.AS A SHIPCARVER AND IN 1848 HE OPENED HIS OWN SHOP AND WAS VERY SUCESSFUL AND HAD ONE OF THE LARGEST SHOPS,CARRING INVENTORY OF 75-100 CIGAR FIGURES.
