JONATHAN HOWARD & CO. MADE WEATHERVANES IN THE EARLY PERIOD OF FACTORY WEATHERVANES. HE IS CONSIDERED IN THE TOP 3 VANE MAKERS. HE WORKED IN BRIDGEWATER, MASS, C. 1850-1868. HIS BUSINESS WAS TAKEN OVER BY H.L. WASHBURN & CO. IN 1868. HIS WORK CAN BE IDENTIFIED BY THE FRONT PART OF THE VANE MADE IN CAST ZINC. THIS HORSR HAS THE FRONT CAST IN SOLID ZINC WITH COPPER HIND QUARTERS. I HAVE SEEN THREE OF THIS FORM, ONE IN A N. Y. SALE SOME YEARS AGO WHICH HAD A FLAT COPPER SULKY AND DRIVER ATTACHED, WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN A LATER ADDITION AND AN IDENTICAL EXAMPLE ON THE CARRIAGE HOUSE OF THE WOODLAND MUSEUM, ELLSWORTH, MAINE. THIS HORSE WAS PURCHASED FROM A CT. COLLECTION THAT WAS IN STORAGE SINCE 1959. HISTORY AVAILABLE. 32" LONG X 14 3/4" TALL. OLD MINOR REPAIRS.
