THIS CHEST WAS ONCE OWNED BY CONNIE HAYES, A SPECIALIST IN "SH" FURNITURE. IT IS A GOOD SIZE AT 44" WIDE X 25 3/4". IN ORIGINAL RED PAINT WITH TYPICAL DIAMOND ESCUTCHEON, (REPLACED), STENCILED HASH MARKS, FLANKED BY FLORAL SPRIGS, THE INITIALS " CW", THE DATE 1874 AND PILLARS, ABOVE A POTTED TULIP VINE, ALL IN A VIBRANT RED BACKGROUND SUPPORTED BY FLORAL DECORATED EBONIZED FEET THAT ARE DOVETAILED. SIMILAR EXAMPLES, SEE MULLER- SOAP HOLLOW, THE FURNITURE AND ITS MAKERS. 3 OTHER EXAMPLES OF FURNITURE WITH THE INITIAL "CW" CAN BE SEEN IN THE BOOK, MANUFACTURED BY HAND. CW =(CATHERINE WINGARD).
